Events & programs

Alumni volunteers and MAA staff coordinate hundreds of touchpoints each year. Dates below describe typical seasons; confirm times and registration on the official association calendar before you travel.

Annual traditions

  • Homecoming weekend in Columbia brings class reunions, parade routes, tailgates, and faculty open houses. Many graduates plan their only annual campus visit around this week.
  • Golden grads and milestone reunions honor classes celebrating 25, 40, or 50 years since graduation, often with dedicated seating at football games and luncheons.
  • Welcome events for new students in metro areas introduce incoming freshmen and transfer students to local alumni mentors.

Sample calendar by season

Spring

Career fairs co-hosted with the university, scholarship award ceremonies, and service days tied to Earth Week or local food banks. Chapters in warmer climates may hold outdoor picnics.

Summer

Young alumni happy hours, continuing education webinars, and send-off parties for students heading to Columbia. Some regions pause large events in July and resume in August.

Fall

Football watch parties, homecoming travel, and philanthropy drives that support campus scholarships. Professional chapters may host industry speakers during conference season.

Winter

Holiday receptions, basketball watch events, and year-end giving campaigns. Virtual programs are common when weather limits travel across Missouri.

Program types

Career & professional development

Panels feature alumni in law, medicine, journalism, engineering, and education. Students can practice interviews, and mid-career graduates swap referrals in moderated roundtables.

Service & community impact

Chapters adopt schools, parks, or shelters for single-day projects. These events double as low-pressure ways to meet other volunteers without a formal membership meeting.

Philanthropy

Fundraising nights at restaurants, online drives, and matching gift reminders help support scholarships, the student emergency fund, and college-specific priorities.
